Rung retains World title in Scotland
In Glasgow Scotland on the 14th September Thailand’s Rungnakorn Kharnpan, or Rung as he is known to UK fight fans made a second successful defense of his ISKA World Light-Welterweight Muaythai title inside four months. He faced undefeated Scottish Muaythai Champion James Doolan at the Oran Morin in Glasgow on the 14th September.
Doolan started tentatively testing his distance with low kicks, Rung answered with firm body shots. In the clinch Doolan was defensive, trying to tie Rung up, on the break Doolan took his chance, backing Rung into a corner and unloading a barrage of twenty or more punches, Rung covered up and rode the storm then stepped through with a right cross rocking Doolan.
In Round two Rungs body kicks were really taking effect, Doolan looked tired, he went down from a knee to the stomach and took an eight count. Rung was back on him with body kicks and Doolan hit the ropes and started to fold when Rung unleashed a right elbow catching Doolan above the left eye, opening up a 6cm cut, the doctor deemed him unable to continue at 2.25 minutes of the second round.
ISKA makes history in Cambodia
The ISKA sanctioned the first ever World Championship Kickboxing event in Cambodia on the 28th August at the Olympic Stadium in Phnum Penh staged by Paddy Carson Promotions. The Historic event featured two ISKA World title matches. Kickboxing in Cambodia is called Khmer Boxing or Kun Khmer and is very similar to Muaythai allowing elbows and knees to the head. England’s Frankie Hudders defended his ISKA World Welterweight title against Cambodia’s National Champion Meas Chanta. After a bright start Hudders started to wilt in the 40 degree heat, Chanta landed a solid long knee to stomach dropping Hudders for an eight count in the third round. Hudders scrambled through the fourth staying out of trouble as Chanta kept pressing forward. Hudders had a better fifth round but was behind on all three judges score cards only a knock down or KO would save his title. Chanta won a unanimous points decision and 5,000 Cambodian’s rose to their feet to applaud their countries first World champion. Germany’s ISKA World Middleweight Champion Alban Ahmeti put his title on the line against Cambodian National Champion Vorn Viva. The German also seem to suffer from the heat, Ahmeti is a strong puncher and has excellent kicks, but he struggled when it came to clinching, knees and elbows, Viva fought a clever tactical fight was always one step ahead and dominated in the clinch scoring a multitude of un-answered knee strikes, he avoided a couple of dangerous spinning kicks from Ahmeti and cruised home to a unanimous points victory another Cambodian World Champion another standing ovation. England’s Tim Thomas was scheduled to face Cambodia’s Nuon Soriya to contest the vacant ISKA Intercontinental Light-welterweight title but Soriya was injured in a motorcycle accident. Instead Thomas face Cambodia Welterweight Champion Pan Sophan in a non-title match, Thomas arrived in Cambodia over weight and trained daily up to the weigh in. He made the weight and it seems acclimatized to the heat as he did not suffer the same fatigue as Hudders and Ahmeti. Sophan pushed forward from the first bell but found himself on the receiving end of ramrod jabs and chopping low kicks, Thomas was also stronger in the clinch out kneeing sophan. The Cambodian was undeterred and marched forward soaking it up until midway through the third when Thomas dropped him with a laser straight right hand, only a long count save him, there were two more flash knock downs in the fourth and fifth Thomas won a clear points victory and was well received by the Cambodian fans who applauded just as loudly as they had for Sophan at the start of the fight. Australia’s Jacob Marks faced Cambodia’s Ek Vatha in another International non-title match in the featherweight division. Vatha dominated the opening rounds with fast punch kick combinations and heavy low kicks. Going into the third round the Australians left thigh looked like corn beef, most spectators were of the opinion that one or two more low kicks would end the fight but Marks survive the round. In the fourth, to the audiences surprise and delight Marks actually staged a comeback winning a share of the round. Marks came out all guns blazing in the fifth and stunned Vatha with a couple of punches but it was too late Vatha had racked up enough points to take a decision at the final bell. The event was broadcast live in prime time by National TV Network CTN who reported a massive 53% rating.

ISKA Lead’s the way in the UK
In the second quarter of 2008 April to June ISKA UK sanctioned 25 events in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales including 3 World titles, 3 European titles and 16 British, National and regional title matches in both Pro and Amateur divisions. ISKA UK sanctioned some major events including PAIN & GLORY (Excel London), POWER OF SCOTLAND 4 (The Lagoon. Paisley) World Championship Muaythai (Leeds Town Hall) and some major fights including the rubber stamp third match between Bad Company’s Richard Cadden and Thailand’s Rungnakorn Kharnpan for the ISKA World Light-welterweight Muaythai title. The long awaited and much discussed match between Barinder Singh and Shawn Burton they put all their ISKA belts on the line, it was winner takes all for the British Commonwealth and European titles. We saw the emergence of a new star in the shape of Northern Ireland’s Daniel Quigley who won the ISKA European Cruiserweight title in March with a first stoppage of Paul Hill then challenged World Champion Wayne Turner and stopped him in the fifth round to take the World crown. There was growth in International activity fighters from Belgium, Belarus, France, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland, Thailand and the USA competing on ISKA UK sanctioned events. UK fighters were invited to compete in Austria, France, Russia, United Arab Emirates and the USA. The ISKA has real world wide activity unlike some of the so-called World sanctioning bodies that have little or no activity outside the country in which they were founded. The success of ISKA UK has pushed some of our competitors into action, one of them cutting their sanctions fees by half, which says more about their true value. Another making a complete policy u-turn in an effort to keep up. We hope our efforts will raise the standards across the board in both Kickboxing and Muaythai.

Island Inferno II
Sat. Apr. 7, 2007 Super Middleweight Professional World Title Match
Charlettetown, Canada, promoter: Barry Ogg
“King” Ken Hewski from Long Island, NY and Muzammal Nawaz of Toronto, Canada squared off in a 12 round Full Contact Rules ISKA Super Middleweight Professional World Title Match.
1,000 fans braved the snow and ice of the season’s worst blizzard to fill the Grand Ballroom of the Delta Hotel in Charlettetown, Canada for the show named Island Inferno II. The promoter, Barry Ogg did a great job setting the tone of the venue, giving the night a real “Vegas” style feel.
Both fighters entered the ring very focused, fully aware of what they had to do to claim the ISKA World Title Belt. After the introductions were made and the center-ring stare down was over, Hewski and Nawaz were ready for battle.
Round 1 started slow as both fighters tried to feel each other out. Neither fighter landed anything effective, but Hewski kept busier using side kicks and a jabbing front leg roundkick to keep Nawaz away from him.
In round 2 both fighters picked up the pace with Nawaz throwing his trademark axe kick, but Hewski was able to land counter with his own sidekick and a couple left crosses to earn the round.
Nawaz started round 3 trying to get inside, but Hewski used an array of sidekicks and some spin kicks to control the distance and keep Nawaz off balance. When Nawaz did get inside, Hewski would tie him up effectively.
In round 4 Nawaz’s tried his best, to reverse the fight’s momentum, which to that point was clearly in Hewski’s favor. By the end of the round Nawaz looked spent as the proud Canadian warrior returned to his corner.
Before the bell sounded for round 5 Nawaz’s corner regrettably called a halt to the match indicating that their fighter could not continue due to a knee injury.
“King” Ken Hewski, ahead on all three scorecards was awarded the stoppage and TKO victory. After more than 40 “ring wars,” the 30 year old veteran from Port Jefferson, NY proudly accepted his first World Title Belt. “I had the best training camp ever, and am very proud of this accomplishment.” The ISKA is equally proud of “King” Ken’s efforts and hope to see him defend his title either in front of his many home-town fans in New York or perhaps in England where the full contact style of kickboxing is most popular.
Nawaz later said that he had injured the knee several weeks earlier, but thought it would be all right for the fight.
All in all the night saw some exciting undercard fights with knockdowns and knockouts and capped off with “King” Ken Hewski living up to his nickname. Hopefully Nawaz’s knee will be all right and the stage can be set for Hewski/Nawaz II, I’m sure the fans would not want to miss that one.
